Review: Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation

Hello friends!

So I don't do enough make up reviews on this blog but after recently running out of my long time favourite Bobbi Brown Long Wear Finish foundation I decided that it was time to try something different. As you all may or may not know I don't wear foundation on a daily basis instead I usually use a tinted moisturiser or BB Cream. As a result I don't have much experience with trying various foundations. But after doing some extensive research and high recommendations I was willing to try the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation.

  • No artificial colours, fragrance, petroleum based mineral oil, paraben or alcohol.
  • "Sheer luminous finish that diffuses appearance of pores and imperfections"
  • 30ml
  • Shade 123

The foundation is contained in a slightly heavy, smooth glass bottle. A pump is included to dispense small amounts of the product as well a secure plastic lid to protect the contents in the bottle. The only downside to the glass packaging is that it might not be convenient for travel.

The foundation is of a slightly watery consistency. It is because of this foundation's very thin fluid like consistency that allows you to create a natural very skin like finish.

The coverage is light to medium but still buildable to a certain extent. One pump of this foundation is enough to provide coverage for the whole face and blends seamlessly into the skin with your preferred application tool. The finish isn't overly dewy but really gives the illusion that your skin is healthy, hydrated and plump. In addition to it's water like texture it feels very light weight and non-greasy on the skin.

This foundation does a great job of reducing any minor redness and evening out the skin. However concealer will be necessary to cover up any further blemishes you may have. In conjunction to good skin care and a face primer, from personal experience this foundation would last between 4-5hrs also taking into account if you'll be doing any highly physical activities or be out in the sun, which in that case this foundation naturally will not last for as long.

My Opinion
  • I find the best way to apply this foundation is with a damp beauty blender. It gives a very skin like and even finish.
  • I highly recommend this foundation for any sort of photography because of its very flawless and airbrushed finish especially evident in photos.
  • I don't recommend mixing this with your bb cream or other base make up. After trying this (1:1) the finish wasn't as flawless and skin like compared to if I were to use this foundation on its own. It also didn't last as long.
  • I use a fine loose powder to set my t-zone but not my entire face when using this foundation in order to maintain the dewiness of the product.
