Review: Mario Badescu Buttermilk Moisturiser

Hi :)

So if you've read my previous blog post, I had travelled overseas last month which pretty much centres the purpose of this skin care review. I travelled to South Korea and the Philippines and as usual it was hot, the Philippines in particular. The weather was almost nothing like the cold I'm use to in Australia. For this reason I wanted to invest in a new moisturiser that would be suitable for the places I would be visiting. I was originally using the Innisfree Olive Real Power Cream, a heavy day moisturiser I had been using for the cold and dry winter weather in Australia. But for this trip I decided that I would try something different that wasn't as thick or heavy for my skin. I eventually decided to try the Mario Badescu Buttermilk Moisturiser after reading a few reviews and recommendations from in-store beauty advisors.

Features
  • Suitable for combination and sensitive skin
  • Lightweight
  • Minimises fine lines and wrinkles
  • Not tested on animals

Packaging
The moisturiser is packaged in a soft plastic 59mL bottle. The moisturiser is then dispensed through a nozzle as you squeeze the bottle.

Texture
My first impression of this product before actually buying it was, if it's blue will it stain my skin. The answer is no. I was a little concerned about the blue colour  but after some research I found that the blue colour is produced from an ingredient called Azulene, which also happens to be a chamomile extract. The overall texture is very light and non greasy. Despite the small product size, you will usually only need a pea sized amount or less of the product to moisturise your face completely. Overall the texture is very smooth and doesn't create that sticky feeling once applied.

My opinion
  • I haven't noticed any obvious changes or improvements to my skin whilst using this product. However I have noticed that it does not block my pores much like heavier moisturisers I have used in the past.
  • I enjoy wearing this under my make up or as an everyday moisturiser underneath my daily sunscreen.
  • As I have both combination and sensitive skin this moisturiser was perfect and I did not notice any adverse reaction to my skin.
  • It makes my skin feel extremely smooth after application which serves as the perfect base for underneath everyday make up.

Scent

I'm just going to be honest and say that I do not enjoy the scent of this product. It has a very organic, herbal and very slight medicinal scent. The scent is not strong to say the least, it's subtle. However from reading other reviews a lot of people do seem to really enjoy the scent so it really just comes down to personal 'scent' preference.

My results
I've been using this product for more than a month now and so far haven't experienced any issues. It does a standard job hydrating my face throughout the day, without needing to re-apply. I would definitely approve it's claims of being very light weight and would highly recommend this to those who are looking for a day cream for the warmer seasons or just looking for a new day cream in general. Although it doesn't perform any amazing miracles for the skin it fulfils what it claims to do as a moisturiser and I will continue to use it until it's finished.
